What's the Story? Dorset’s famous lost village, Tyneham on the Isle of Purbeck has an obvious attraction to an artist. In December 1943 225 residents left their homes as the village had been requisitioned as a military training area to prepare troops for D-day and the Battle of Normandy that followed. The villagers never returned and the derelict cottages, skeletal appearance, jagged roofless walls and sculptural forms of the trees, nestled in its valley so close to the sea make this a simply beautiful setting. So far this is the only wintry scene Richard has painted and depicts beautifully the way the village has remained frozen in time for the last 60 years.
