What's the story? - Featuring the Cathedral is an obvious choice for a painting of Salisbury. Less obvious is the Spitfire, however in 1940 the town became a major centre for manufacturing Spitfires, hidden in sheds, garages, back gardens, a bus depot and a hotel. With a workforce mainly made up of unskilled young girls, boys, women and a handful of engineers, 2000 Spitfires were built. The car a MG T series for the enthusiasts out there, including Richard.
Artist Richard Watkin paints the evocative locations and landscapes of Dorset and surrounding counties. He paints with acrylics in a bold graphical style, his travel print collection evokes a sense of nostalgia, a time when the pace of life was slower and the sun was always shinning!
