Fine art print of the original painting of Chesil Beach Portland. Part of the travel print collection by Dorset artist Richard Watkin. Printed on quality 315gsm textured cotton paper available in A4, A3 and A2 sizes which fit 'off the shelf' frames. All the prints are signed by the artist.
What's the story? Richard first visited Chesil Beach in 1974 on an art field trip and loves the way there has been so little change since. The historical aspect of the area also appeals; the discovery of 20,000 sling stones collected from Chesil Beach and used to defend Maiden Castle from an attack by the Romans, highlights the impact the sea and coastline has on the island and its occupants. He decided to focus this painting on the Cove House Inn as he loves the view and we’ve had many a pint tucked up inside shielded from the elements.
Artist Richard Watkin paints the evocative locations and landscapes of Dorset from the beaches and towns of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to the dramatic Jurassic Coastline and picturesque Purbeck villages. He paints with acrylics in a bold graphical style, his travel print collection evokes a sense of nostalgia, a time when the pace of life was slower and the sun was always shinning!
