Abbotsbury

What's the Story? The last Jurassic Coast painting (for now!) the historic village of Abbotsbury, this is the landscape of Thomas Hardy with St Catherine's Chapel in splendid isolation high on the hilltop overlooking Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland. The barrel-vaulted 14th century chapel was built by the monks of the nearby Abbotsbury Abbey as a place of pilgrimage and retreat. Richard waited a long time to get the perfect shot of the chapel, which is often shrouded in mist, finally one day on our way home from West Bay on the coast road the light was right and he had his camera to hand, finally getting the picture he had been after.
