VINTAGE INSPIRED PAINTINGS, PRINTS, POSTERS
Dorset artist Richard Watkin paints original vintage inspired locations reminiscent of travel posters of the 1930's with some 50s influences. His paintings often include classic cars and have a retro art deco feel. All of Richard's paintings are available as high quality prints and posters on fine art paper, which will keep their vibrant colours for many years to come. So what makes WatkinArt different from other artists creating vintage style prints? Well - all our prints are created from Richard's original paintings and not computer generated, this means that not every line is perfectly straight, the colours are vibrant and earthy and each painting is unique with around 50 to 60 hrs of blood, sweat and tears put into each and everyone of them! We print ourselves because we don’t want our images photoshopped to perfection, we like to see the imperfect textured effect of the canvas, the brush strokes, the highlights and lowlights - after all nothing in life is perfect and we prefer things that way!
Our 2019 calendar features 12 vintage inspired images of Dorset. Locations include Bournemouth, Worbarrow Bay, Durlston Head, West Bay, Poole, Wareham, Kimmeridge, Studland, Lyme Regis, Shaftesbury, Southbourne and Swanage. All images are from original paintings by Richard painted in his studio at the bottom of the garden in Wimborne Dorset. There...
What's the story? Richard has fond memories of childhood holidays spent in Bournemouth. The family travelling down from Taunton in their Morris Minor Traveller in the early 1960's. Experiencing his first taste of Camp Coffee, being sick on his Dad's lap watching the ice skating show in Westover Road ice rink. And...

What's the story?Kimmeridge Bay is a favourite for the Watkin clan, summer holidays are incomplete without a visit to the bay for some fossil hunting and mucking about in the rock pools. This painting was inspired by a photo taken by our son-in-law on one such visit. The ruggedness of the...
What's the story? Richard took the ferry to Brownsea Island late one summer and got some great shots of the iconic buildings on Poole quay on the way back. The yellow ferry featured is the one that goes from Sandbanks to Brownsea, a nice way to spend the day when the weather...
What's the story? - This spot overlooking Durdle Door is without a doubt one of the all time favourites for the Watkin family. We have visited this particular stretch of the Jurassic coastline many times in the past 30 years and our daughter was proposed to not far from this spot. Trying to...
What's the Story? Richard and his family were fans of West Bay long before the TV series Broadchurch made it famous. The distinctive cliffs with their bands of soft and hard rock, some with a reddish hue make an outstanding landmark and a wonderful subject matter for a painting. Prints and...
What's the story? Our daughter Ella and her partner Gino love visiting the Jurassic coastline, particularly as it has certain similarities to Gino's original home; Cape Town, South Africa. Gino took the stunning photo which captures a beautiful sunny day in the summer of 2015. Prints and Posters - These are created from...

A3 Prints - 29.7cm x 42cm will fit 'off the shelf' A3 frames, but check frame measurement first
50cm x 70cm Prints - 52cm x 72cm which includes a 2cm white border which can be altered if necessary to fit an 'off the shelf' frame
Calendars - These are A4 when folded, so easy to pop in the post as a pressie. Double A4 when opened and hanging.
