VINTAGE INSPIRED PAINTINGS, PRINTS, POSTERS
Dorset artist Richard Watkin paints original vintage inspired locations reminiscent of travel posters of the 1930's with some 50s influences. His paintings often include classic cars and have a retro art deco feel. All of Richard's paintings are available as high quality prints and posters on fine art paper, which will keep their vibrant colours for many years to come. So what makes WatkinArt different from other artists creating vintage style prints? Well - all our prints are created from Richard's original paintings and not computer generated, this means that not every line is perfectly straight, the colours are vibrant and earthy and each painting is unique with around 50 to 60 hrs of blood, sweat and tears put into each and everyone of them! We print ourselves because we don’t want our images photoshopped to perfection, we like to see the imperfect textured effect of the canvas, the brush strokes, the highlights and lowlights - after all nothing in life is perfect and we prefer things that way!
What's the Story? - The last Jurassic Coast painting (for now!) the historic village of Abbotsbury, this is the landscape of Thomas Hardy with St Catherine's Chapel in splendid isolation high on the hilltop overlooking Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland. The barrel-vaulted 14th century chapel was built by the monks of...

What's the story? - This spot overlooking Durdle Door is without a doubt one of the all time favourites for the Watkin family. We have visited this particular stretch of the Jurassic coastline many times in the past 30 years and our daughter was proposed to not far from this spot. Trying to...
What's the story? - Who wouldn't want a beach hut at this fabulous location? Sadly we can't afford one so Richard did the next best thing and painted them. Really great to meet someone at Mudeford Art Weeks who told us we had captured her hut in the painting - lucky...
What's the story? - Richard's love of aircraft continue with this painting of the Red Arrows over Bournemouth Pier. Happy days going to the Airshow with the children when they were little, and witnessing the spectacle of the daring aeronautical displays! Prints and Posters - These are created from Richard's original painting,...
What's the story? This is a favourite place for the Watkin family, we prefer visiting in the winter and having a nice Sunday roast in one of the local pubs. This is one of the first paintings Richard did that included a car (a Morris Minor Convertible). Dating back to the...
